MAPSCorp Civic Tech Team Tackles Big Data Part I

Meet Greater Auburn-Gresham Development Corporations MAPSCorps Civic Tech Team 2014. They are participating in a 6-week ummer intern program in conjunction with the University of Chicago, After School Matters and GADC. These are no ordinary “mappers. This year, five interns were selected to analyze five years of asset data to propose a civicly engaged project of the felt is most needed by the communities we serve. All thought they new almost instantly what they and other youth were willing to fight for, they rolled up their sleeves to tackle the BIG DATA package needed to validate their assumptions for their project proposal.

Project Tech Teens Making a Difference

We are looking to teach 50 students, especially girls, from underserved communities in Chicago, howe to build mobile apps this summer. Think. Build. Pitch. is a one-week, intensive summer camp that engages young people ages 13-18 how to think critically, and build solid business plans around their technology solutions. July 21st – July 25, 2014, 9AM to 4PM, at Blue 1647, 1647 S. Blue Island, Chicago, Illinois.

Supporting Chicago’s Entrepreneurs: Marketplace Brings New Health Coverage Options

Illinois’ new health insurance marketplace is open for business, and it’s already providing small business owners and their employees with improved options for affordable coverage.  Open enrollment for 2015 begins on November 15. In the meantime, employees and self-employed folks can use an online calculator to determine if they’re eligible for a subsidy to help cover the cost of insurance for coverage in 2015.
