For 25 years, Chicago Cares has been proud to bring you Serve-a-thon, Chicago’s largest volunteer day. In order to plan for and launch a new Serve-a-thon in 2020, Chicago Cares will not be hosting Serve-a-thon in June 2019. Don’t Miss Out! Hundreds of Ballerinas in Tutus Competing For Scholarships in Chicago

Hundreds of talented student dancers (ages 9 – 19) from the Chicago region will audition for Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) this Thursday, January 10 – Saturday, January 12, 2019. This is the American Idol of ballet! Winners will continue to Finals in NYC where scholarships to top schools and companies around the world will be awarded. The competition is open to the public to watch.

Mayor Emanuel Moves to Expand the City’s Transit Oriented Development Policy to Eight Bus Corridors Across Chicago

The proposal, introduced to City Council this month, would enable new construction projects along more than 20 high-ridership bus routes to reduce on-site parking and add density for more walkable neighborhoods. The proposal covers eight corridors served by the following routes
  • 55th/Garfield Bouelvard (#55)
  • 63rd Street (#63)
  • 79th Street (#79)
  • Ashland Avenue (#9, #X9)
  • Chicago Avenue (#66)
  • North Lake Shore Drive (#134, #135, #136, #143, #146, #147, #148)
  • South Lake Shore Drive (#2, #6, #J14, #26, #28)
  • Western Avenue (#49, #X49)
