Residents, Media Tour MLK Memorial During Annual Luncheon

This past Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, local families, activists and elected officials came together for IMAN’s annual MLK Commemorative Luncheon. Volunteers of all ages spent the afternoon serving catered meals to community residents, while 16th Ward Alderwoman Toni Foulkes and 17th Ward Alderman David Moore shared reflections on the legacy of Dr. King’s work in Chicago.

Treasurer Summers Kicks Off “77 Proud” with Resource Fair and Panel Discussion

On Friday, Chicago City Treasurer Kurt Summers hosted the first “77 Proud” Financial Education Resource Fair, along with a panel discussion, to commence the initiative sponsored by City Treasurer Kurt Summers. January to March, resource fairs will take place across Chicago to raise awareness of financial education and the resources available. This fair is the first in the “77 Proud” initiative. Louis Armstrong comes to life in a one-man play at the Court Theatre

A man who has for years written for the Wall Street Journal has further spread his writing chops, so to speak, in the one-man play that is currently premiering at the Court Theatre. “Satchmo at the Waldorf” tells the story about the end of the trumpet master’s career, and stage and screen star Barry Shabaka Henley is great in his turn as Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong.

Youth advocate receives Martin Luther King Humanitarian Award

On the 87th birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and St. Bernard Hospital held its 19th annual celebration honoring the life and legacy of the civil rights champion. This year’s honoree, Michael Tidmore, is a restorative justice advocate in Englewood, who has become an example to at-risk youth that they can turn their lives around.
