“It’s Always Something” Teen Essay Contest, open to high school students willing to share their experiences with cancer. Gilda’s Club Chicago is looking for honest, detailed and personal essays by high school students (9th-12th grade) who woudl like to share their stories about being impacted by caner. Entry deadline, March 2nd.

Auburn Gresham Digital Youth Network Sends Condolences for “Brother Mike” Hawkins

Chicago poet, activist, mentor, and multimedia educator Mike Hawkins, better known as Brother Mike, has died at age 38, according to several sources close to Hawkins. Brother Mike’s services are Wednesday December 10th 11am-2pm Second Baptist Church, 1717 Benson Ave Evanston, IL. Celebration of Life, December 21st, 2-8pm Little Black Pearl, 1060 E. 47th.
